Housed in a historic light-blush toned Georgian Revival estate on the fringe of downtown Lexington, Camel Club is the first high-end community driven Member’s Club in the region. To celebrate this humble town’s storied culture as a major Equine Capital of the world, the property was envisioned as an eclectic watering hole for gathering Lexington’s globally-renowned equestrian elite & their quirky creative camel cousins under one roof. We envisioned the house as a social hub to foster meaningful connections, to inspire, to build, to rest, to create, to commune. Upon the entry of the property, guests are greeted by a hand carved solid burl camel sculpture that we fell for off the coast of Morocco—meet our muse Camila. She sits perched atop a bespoke plinth, designed in five shades of unique hand picked natural stone. Adorned with a golden beaded tassel, because why not—our muse deserves her moment.
The highly programmed Camel Club property features 6,500 SF of Indoor Spaces and 3,500 of Exterior Garden Spaces, with a total of 180 F&B covers throughout the various locations of the home. These versatile spaces include a signature restaurant, two intimate 6-seat cocktail bars, co-working spaces, a 14-seat boardroom, media screening room, test kitchen for private events, a hifi-listening lounge, library lounge, and a series of lush, intimate outdoor gardens and terraces. Think modern (non-stuffy) country club meets creative playground meets culinary incubator. Light and airy spaces for daytime work stimulation are balanced with moody deep-hued cosy dens for a late night cocktail or screening of your favorite film.
For the interior color palette–we sought to pay respects to the original eccentric dusty pink facade of the historic home. Old soul, new blush. The beloved blush hues of the facade inspired the punchy interior palette, to pay homage to the prior stewards of the property. A majority of the furnishings–about two thirds of the total FF&E Package–were custom designed with our fabrication partners in Marrakech, to bring a worldly flair to the midwestern town. Rich burled thuya wood, eccentrically-toned pink natural stones, hammered brass metalwork, and a spectrum of handmade clay bejmat tiles were hand-picked by the design & development team during a fabrication trip a year prior to the opening. This attention to detail and intentional craftsmanship is what we sought to bring a unique edge and inspiration to the community, especially given the intent for the club to be an incubator for creative innovation in Lexington.
